In Omotesando, you can always enjoy cutting-edge art that reflects the moment. Today, let us introduce a special installation by a Japanese umbrella atelier, currently on view until September 23.
To celebrate the 20th anniversary of opening Iida Kasaten, umbrella artist Yoshihisa Iida—who studied textile design and dyeing at an art university—presents the exhibition “Watari” in Aoyama (Omotesando, Tokyo).
One of the highlights is an installation featuring over 300 umbrellas previously created by the atelier.
They are beautifully arranged along the circular architecture of Spiral Hall, creating a striking visual scene.

Another section invites visitors to lift textile layers to reveal whimsical worlds hidden within. There are also displays dedicated to the textiles themselves, showcasing the beauty of fabric and design.
The essence of Iida Kasaten lies in its deep dedication to textiles—many motifs are inspired by nature, such as hydrangeas and mimosa, or familiar everyday objects. Among the most popular patterns are hydrangea and corn.

Since Iida Kasaten has no permanent store, sales are handled through exhibitions and order events. While the umbrellas are considered premium in price, each order takes about six months to a year to complete.
Receiving a one-of-a-kind umbrella makes the wait truly rewarding.
Relax at Spiral Garden’s Second Floor Overlooking Aoyama-dori

On the second floor, reached via a curved slope, you’ll also find a shop space.
Right next to it, Spiral Garden offers a relaxing area where you can sit back, look out over Aoyama-dori through large glass windows, and enjoy the view decorated with umbrellas.
